Yes, I am back this week talking about my favorite topic, luxury handbags.
Bag Trends 2024 Edition. Yes, before we get into it. This Capricorn girl has something to get off her chest. I was recently in a conversation about luxury handbags at work. One of my male colleagues said he couldn’t understand how people pay this much money for handbags. I wish I could let it slide. But I had to explain. And ladies, I hope this serves you as well because let’s face it, this is a common situation. Men don’t necessarily understand our love and commitment (in dollars) to handbags, but you don’t need to feel guilty because they do spend money on other things that they appreciate like cars, watches, etc…. which I don’t personally understand. So, at the end of the day it is your money and what you do with it is your business. You know, from the famous words of Morgan Housel.
Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, Let’s dive in. It’s March and we have seen New York, Milan, and Paris Fashion week come and go with all of the beautiful trends on the runway. We have to admit accessories were a big hit, I know it’s not just me (aka bag lover) saying this. Some trends are sticking around for a little longer, some are here for bit. Oversize, almost full, careless chic is here to stay. Big bags are back, but we knew that mini bags were not going to be in for too long. Ugh, this is a tough year for bag lovers. Let’s get into it.
This blog post is all about Bag Trends 2024 Edition. I’m here to tell you everything I see that’s worth adding to your closet.
#1 East-West Bags
Horizontal style bags are everywhere, almost every brand now carries their classic bag in this variation. There is something very beautiful, elegant and Italian chic about this style. I can definitely see the appeal. I would pair it with a midi skirt, pumps with low heels. It’s a classic style with a twist. Think Hermes Birkin in E/W version, The Row Margaux E/W, The Row Idaho, Khaite Simona Shoulder Bag, or Prada Medium Leather Handbag.

#2 Messy Chic
This sort of I’m too cool (rich) to care about my five grand designer hand bag, worn unzipped, items recognizable about to flow outside the bag look. Yes, Miu Miu really played in on that style and we must say they did it really well. Miu Miu Leather Top Handle Bag and all of it’s variation really wins the prize here. The Row Domino, although not advertised the same way, has a similar look with a buttery soft leather.

#3 Big & Slouchy
As I mentioned this earlier. No one thought that micro bags were here to stay forever. Big bags came back and they came back stronger than ever. This is the I’m carrying my entire apartment in my hand bag era. Maybe 2-3 hand sanitizers, who knows? I might need that scarf. What if I hit the gym after work? – I need to be prepared for it all. Fashion is constantly evolving. But for someone who wore medium size crossbody bags for almost ten years, I am ready to carry it all again with me. The Row Margaux 15 is sitting my in closet waiting for my trip, so so glad I got my hands on it. Ferragamo Hug Handbag is another option, and Khaite The Medium Amelia Tote.
#4 Black Cherry and Sky-Blue Bags
Everywhere you look it seems bags and shoes come in the black cherry, bordeaux or whatever you want to call it color… and that beautiful baby or sky-blue color. These colors go well together, but they also make excellent accent colors to a neutral outfit. I can see how bags in these colors can be worn even after the trend dies out, especially for the black cherry color. Gucci Jackie Notte Mini Bag, Loewe Medium Squeeze Bag in Nappy Lamskin, Prada Re-Edition 2005 Re-Nylon and Saffiano Mini Bag, and Ferragamo Iconic Top Handle Bag.

Light Blue Bags Left to Right: Prada Re-Edition 2005 Re-Nylon and Saffiano Mini Bag, Ferragamo Iconic Top Handle Bag. Top Right: Fendi Baguette Brown FF Jacquard Fabric Bag. First Tan Bag in the center: Celine Medium Ava Strap Bag in Smooth Calfskin Tan. Tan Bag to the Left Bottom: Celine Heloise Cuir Triomphe Bag in Supple Calfskin Tan.
#5 90’s Era Shoulder Bags
Nothing says childhood nostalgia like a simple 90’s inspired shoulder bag. I think Celine really takes the cake here with several reiterations with the Ava and then Heloise bag. The resurgence of the Fendi Baguette these past couple of years has been huge. If you sold your Baguette, you probably really regretted it, sorry. Prada brought back a re-edition.
If you ask me personally, while they do bring back memories of a very good time, I’m not going to easily drop two grands or more on something that remind me so much of Fast Fashion bags like Mango. I vividly remember using a cream bag very similar to Celine’s Ava in my teenage years. It’s a tough sell. Fendi Baguette Brown FF Jacquard Fabric Bag, Celine Heloise Cuir Triomphe Bag in Supple Calfskin Tan and Celine Medium Ava Strap Bag in Smooth Calfskin.
#6 Unique shape bags
It wasn’t a one season deal. We saw bags with unique shapes come back season after season. Chanel made bags in the shape of stars and hearts (someone watched the Barbie movie), but probably nothing really matched the popularity of Alaia’s Le Coeur Crossbody bag. I could not understand the bag when it first came out, now I actually think it’s cute and it is very well made. Chanel Star Handbag and Alaia Le Coeur Bag in Calfskin.

#7 Clutch
If you’re thinking to yourself but clutches are always in, you’re not wrong. Clutches are a classic and they will always be in, but we are seeing a surge in a minimalist envelope style clutch this year in many fashion houses. Easy to carry, very sleek with a vintage look to it. The Row Abby Bag in Leather (the handles can be tucked in) and Saint Laurent Envelope Uptown Pouch in Crocodile-Embossed Shiny Leather.
