THE ROW CITY FLIP FLOP REVIEW

Are you looking to buy The Row City Flip Flop? I am here for an honest review.

I remember seeing The Row City Flip Flop for the first time. Perhaps around February 2024? I am not sure. It looked so perfect, so right. It honored The American tradition with a metropolitan twist. I couldn’t help myself; I went to the store and tried them on. If there was a time to use the word substantial, that was it. What a luxurious flip flop, I thought.

No one had ever made me want to purchase flip flops before. I had never felt the need to pay an astronomical amount to showcase my American pride. When I say no one, before the Olsens that is. They have been seen wearing flip flops over the years. They had already launched The Ginza, and then around this time it was all about The City flip flop.

I thought about them for some time, because everyone I shared my love for those flip flops absolutely judged me (oh well). I tried many other brands’ versions in an effort to talk myself out, but nothing did it for me. I bought these sometime in Spring 2024 and fast forward to end of Summer 2025, I sent them to a new home (love a spoiler alert). So here I am telling you all about it. I love a good review, get your tea or coffee ready. Let’s get into it.

This blog post is all about The Row City Flip Flop. Let’s dive right in.

THE BRAND: THE ROW

If this brand is new to you or you want to learn more, please visit my blog post on The Row, where I talk about the history of the brand and everything related to it! Make sure to come back here.

THE LOOK

What does The Row City Flip Flop offer? Ok, this is completely subjective. But what makes these so special besides having the Olsens pose in them in their infamous WSJ photo, the cover of my blog post… is how elevated they look. The way these extend beyond your toes’ length, with a nicely done stitch all around make it very chic for a flip flop. The shape is not round nor is it square, somewhere in between. The leather feels so rich. There is some weight to them, so they feel nice and substantial. The logo is a small gold leather stamp over the heel area.

SIZES

These come in a full range of sizes 35-42 including half sizes. If you have skinny feet you might want to size down half a size, otherwise your toes will stick out in the front. I’m a 38.5 in all my shoes with The Row and I got a 38 in these.

THE PRICE

These retail for $890 + tax. Egregious, I know.

But there are a few facts here. This is an all-leather flip flop (insole and straps), very well made, the obvious, it’s The Row. Like I mentioned before, I gave this a lot of thought, but I didn’t like anything else on the market at the time similar to this one and anything I purchased instead would not have scratched the itch.

COLORS AVAILABLE

These have always been available only in two colors: black and bordeaux. The black is a no brainer and I wanted to have a pair of nice flip flops in black, such a classic… but the Bordeaux is a very beautiful almost in the shade of plum.

COMFORT

The insole of the flip flop is very comfortable, it almost feels like there is cushion and enough support for your foot. For the flat shape that it has, it surprised me.

The problem area with these flip flops is the rubbing of the straps on the top part of my foot. At least for me, even though I have sensitive skin on my feet, this was more than the usual experience. It didn’t get better over time either. Perhaps it’s not just a material issue, it’s also the weight of the shoe itself, or a combination of both.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I really loved these flip flops and I bought them with the intention to wear them all summer. I made a lot of effort to break them in, but I was left dealing with skin breakdown and bandaids all summer long. I went as far as placing band aids in V-shape under the straps (don’t judge me) but got nowhere.

Compared to the Ginza, the part where the two straps meet between your toes, it is not a problem area for this pair.

I ended up selling these because of how uncomfortable the straps were. For the price I paid, I did not expect having issues with the straps, it was a bit disappointing.
